Name: Annual Spring Housewalk
Date: May 19, 2019
Time: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
The Wilmette Historical Museum will be holding its 32nd annual Spring Housewalk, “1890s Elegance to 1950s Chic,” featuring four beautiful historic homes in east Wilmette that epitomize the variety of architectural styles in the village. Housewalk highlights include Mid-Century Modern furnishings, a stunning contemporary art collection, lovely original woodwork and antiques, Arts & Crafts decorative details, and intriguing stories about the families that have lived in these homes.

Ticket-holders will tour inside the 1890s home that once belonged to the Gillson family, after whom Gillson Park is named, a Mid-Century Modern house designed by an architect for his own family, a lovingly restored Tudor Revival residence, and a Colonial Revival masterpiece. Restoration and preservation of older homes help retain the community’s cultural and visual diversity and reuse existing resources, supporting the goal of creating a sustainable future for the village.

Guides will be on hand to enhance the interior tours with details about the history and beautiful, architectural elements that give each home its unique character.  An informative brochure about the history, architecture, and early owners of the four homes is included in the ticket price. The housewalk is a great event for history buffs, home remodelers, and for those who are just curious and would enjoy an afternoon stroll and a fun outing.

The Spring Housewalk is held each year to support the work of the Wilmette Historical Museum in preserving our village’s past. The Museum appreciates the generous support of Morgante Wilson Architects; Nature’s Perspective Landscaping; North Shore Community Bank and Trust; R.H. Witt Heating; de Giulio kitchen design; Cook Architectural Design Studio, Inc.; Don Olson State Farm Ins.; Millen Hardware Store; and Oscar Isberian Rugs, all sponsors of this year’s housewalk.
