OPEN TO ALL! Please join the Woman's Club of Wilmette either in-person or via Zoom on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at 12 noon, as we welcome Dr. Elizabeth Son to discuss her award-winning book Embodied Reckonings: Comfort Women, Performance, and Transpacific Redress.
Embodied Reckonings examines the political and cultural aspects of contemporary performances (protests, tribunals, theatre, and memorial building) in South Korea, Japan, and the United States that have grappled with the history of Japanese military sexual slavery. Her research in general explores the relationship between histories of gender-based violence and transnational Asian/Asian American performance-based art and activism.
Dr. Son is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Director of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama at Northwestern University.
