Event Description:
The Wilmette Historical Museum invites the community to the opening of their new exhibit, “Dancing for My Tribe: Potawatomi Tradition in Modern Times.”  This exhibit of dramatic, large-format photographic portraits of Potawatomi Indians in their modern dance regalia is the story of a modern people who live in a world of sewing machines, duct tape, and acrylics and reflects the personal stories of Potawatomi people today.  The exhibit will run from June 10 through September 17, 2018.
 
The photographer, Sharon Hoogstraten, is a Chicago resident and a descendant of the Ouilmette family after whom the village of Wilmette is named.  She will be on hand at the exhibit opening for a short introduction at 2:30 p.m. 
 
Admission to Museum exhibits is always free and the entire community is welcome to this opening where refreshments will be served.
