Mr. Lanyon has had fifty years of working experience with water in metropolitan Chicago and is the retired Executive Director of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. His book Draining Chicago: The Early City and the North Area documents efforts to control flooding and water quality issues that have challenged Chicago and its northern communities since the flow of the Chicago River was turned away from Lake Michigan in 1900.
